Chateau Granville strives to be green

green key eco rating program

The Best Western Plus Chateau Granville Hotel & Suites believes that green initiatives should be on the forefront of our mission. Leaving behind little or no carbon footprints is a goal we strive to meet each day. Whether it is promoting the use of natural and local products, reducing greenhouse gases or minimizing our consumption of water usage, it’s our duty to provide you with superb service and lush accommodations without sacrificing the natural world around us.

We have partnered with different programs in order to reduce our environmental impact and have a positive influence on our community.  As our guest, we sincerely thank you for assisting us in our green initiatives.

In an effort to reduce pollution and harmful emissions, our hotel supports the use of electric vehicles. Our underground parking garage provides charging access and parking for electrically charged vehicles. We invite you to utilize this amenity in your support of our green friendly programs.

Green Key Eco Rating Program

Green Key Meetings

The Green Key Eco-Rating Program Green Keys is an internationally recognized eco-rating program that aims to honour and exemplify properties committed to improving their environmental and fiscal performance.

The Best Western Plus Chateau Granville Hotel & Suites is honoured to have received the prestigious 4 Green Keys. The 4 Green Keys is given to a property that has shown national industry leadership and commitment to protecting the environment. Successfully producing measurable results, our program focuses on projects in water and energy conservation, waste reduction, recycling, usage of eco-friendly and local products and services as well as environmental management and training programs.

In 2011, Green Key Global and the MPI Foundation Canada co-created the Green Key Meetings Program which is a comprehensive assessment tool for sustainable event facilities based on the following six key areas: Core Areas (Carbon, Energy, Waste, Water, Air Quality) Communication (Information, Training) , Activities (Purchasing, Auditing, Community), People (Health), Exhibitions and audio-visual. Same as the Green Key lodging program, the venues are awarded a rating from 1 to 5 Keys, 5 Keys being the highest attainable. Our hotel is proud to be certified a 4 Green Key Meetings property. We do our best to provide sustainable meeting operations by minimizing our negative impact on the environment.

Green Tourism

Chateau Granville Green Tourism Silver

Green Tourism is the world’s largest sustainable certification program.

Best Western Plus Chateau Granville Hotel & Suites & Conference Centre is a proud member of Green Tourism, having joined the program in 2016. We are delighted to announce that, after an assessment of our site, we were recently accredited with the Silver Grade Certification.

Green Tourism is a not-for-profit organization established in Scotland, UK in 1997. Their mission is to encourage and enable people to make sustainable choices that reduce their impact on the planet.

Being a member of Green Tourism enables us to be more conscious of our impact on the environment as a business and to look for and implement effective ways to reduce this impact as much as possible.

Green Tourism has now prepared a set of Industry Benchmarks (Poor, Fair, Good and Excellent) for all their members to focus on achieving a net zero carbon impact per room night and zero kWh/square metre.

Their aim is to provide a high quality customer experience whilst being environmentally friendly.

Clean the World

The Best Western Plus Chateau Granville Hotel & Suites has partnered with Clean the World.  Founded in 2009, the Clean the World Foundation is a Florida-based not-for-profit corporation that collects and recycle soap and bottle amenities discarded by the hospitality industry. The soap and other products are then re-distributed and donated to domestic homeless shelters and impoverished countries, helping to prevent thousands of hygiene-related deaths worldwide.

This initiative not only saves many lives, but also helps preserve the environment. It is estimated that with Clean the World, the hotel will divert over 0.86 tons of landfill waste annually, which is then transformed into about 5250 soap bars. All soap bars are recycled in an environmentally friendly way.
